Roof Accessories

A roofing system works together with all parts to keep the weather elements out of your living space, and have a lasting lifespan.

Some of the common weak links of a roofing system are as follows:

  1. Chimneys

  2. Pipe flashings

  3. Eave/ Rake flashings

  4. Gutter maintenance

1. Chimneys

Chimney flashing is the number one suspect for leaks. Many roofers rely on caulk to keep water out.

Our flashings are custom fabricated for the specific application and all corners are soldered together. Mortar joints are ground out and our counter flashing is adhered into the mortar. This method lasts as long as the metal does, and not 5-10 years like caulk.

Chimney Caps

These are designed to shed wind driven rain and standing water off the top of the chimney structure. It will  move water down the face of the brick or siding, rather than behind I, if the chimney cap is fabricated properly.

Chimney Repointing/ Tuckpointing

Mortar joints that have cracked or become brittle are susceptible for leakage. These are ground out and refilled with mortar mix.

BEFORE

Leaky flashing, subpar chimney cap, and deteriorated mortar joints.

Bathrooms, furnaces/ water heaters, dryers, and kitchen ranges all have penetrations that go through the roof deck. Flashings are what keep these holes covered and the attic dry. Each type of pipe has a specific flashing to function properly and last.

2. Pipe Flashings

IPS 4-1 standard pipe flashing. The thin rubber rain collar is the weak link. Installing an additional rain collar will ensure the flashing lasts as long as the roof.

Colors: Black, Mill ( metal), Brown, and Gray.

Dryerjack.jpeg

PROPER Dryer vent flashing. The Dryerjack is made to derestrict the flow of lint from the dryer. It has a flap to open and let lint flow freely when the dryer is in use, and close when not in use.

This flashing keeps lint buildup from happening and can prevent fire hazards.

The only available color is Black.

Zipseal Retrofit Flashing for electrical pipes, if your power supply is mounted on your roof.

The flashing is split and wraps around the pipe for easy replacement. The split clamps back together securely and water tight.

The only available color is black.

3. Eave and Rake Flashing

Eave flashing/ Eave metal / "Drip Edge" is the horizontal piece of angled metal responsible for diverting water from the roof into the gutter. The metal diverts running water from the roof away from the top of the fascia board if there is no existing gutter.

Rake flashing or Rake metal is responsible for keeping wind driven rain from blowing under the shingles

We have the expertise and tools to custom fabricate eave and rake flashing on the job site. Metal can be customized in sizes to accommodate decking gaps, and lower gutters. Available colors are shown below :

4. Gutter Maintenance

Major issues can start small without proper gutter maintenance.

A gutter full of debris can fall away from the fascia board without proper fasteners. This can also cause the fascia board to pull away from the rafters and drastically change the overhang of the shingles. Rainwater will then be spilling on the rafters/ soffit.

We do not install new gutters at this time, but we can help maintain your existing gutters. Resealing joints, end caps, and downspout outlets is usually at that is needed to keep your gutter from leaking.

Refastening gutters with a hanger and screw is something we do to keep the gutter from falling off even when it is filled. Gutter spikes or nails do not hold up as good over time compared to hangers and screws.

 Gutter Screens

Spectra Pro Select Armor Lock powder coated steel gutter screen is our favorite screen, and the most popular. It is a mesh configuration that allows water to travel in freely and keep big debris out.

They are securely seated in the lip of the gutter and underneath the shingles. They are fastened with screws on the gutter.
